    Shackled Yet Free

When Jake was four years old, his life turned upside-down. One morning he woke up to his mother saying, Your daddy does not live here anymore. At the time, she was pregnant, and they needed money. Suddenly Jake was the man of the house, and he never saw his real dad again. His mother remarried, but it wasn't the same. The damage had been done, and Jake's path to destruction began.

As he grows, he tries to fill the emptiness of abandonment with drugs, violence, and troubled relationships. Of course, his efforts failed, which only pushed him further toward a life of crime. Eventually, Jake goes too far, and he ends up behind bars. He has hit rock bottom, and there is no hope for recovery or redemption. But then he meets someone who changes all that and tells him about someone who is willing to forgive.

Shackled yet Free is a perilous journey into the life of a man who faces obstacles from the get-go. Unable to recover from the pain of his past, his life is almost ruined until he finds God. Coffee Shop Ministries

"Coffee Shop Ministries" represents about twenty-five short stories about every day people often over a cup of tea or coffee. The encounters were mostly strangers, whose lives were changed or their stories deeply affected this author to write about them. Readers often commented on the writings with words that implied the meetings were not accidental. Many referred to them as divine appointments. Several stories followed as a result of the readers sharing their lives with this author to capture as well. This author desires for the world to know that we are not alone in our journey, especially spiritually. As many of the people in these stories have been encouraged, it is this author's hope that many more can also benefit by reading them. The characters in the stories are real people with hope restored, joy uplifted, and lives changed for the better.

Each account concludes with thought provoking questions for the readers to contemplate. They can be shared in group studies where, perhaps, others might feel free to share their life events as well. It is this author's belief that God exists and desires to move in the lives of His creation. It is not uncommon for people to believe that they are going through trials, times of grief or sadness alone. Often, a few encouraging words from an outsider can make all the difference. Others may feel that they have little to offer someone in need, but reaching out with a simple cup of coffee may change that belief as well. Most of us can remember people who changed the course of their lives for the better, like a teacher, a pastor, a friend, a neighbor, or a stranger. This work is full of those times. Some stories represent a few days in time while others span many years. "Coffee Shop Ministries" will uplift your soul.

    Psychology of Parables.png
    Psychology of Parables

We are introduced to parables by Jesus as a way of sharing a story with a deeper meaning. Often these were used to help his followers understand concepts about heaven, discipleship, and other teachings. This is a study about how Jesus used parables to avoid confrontation, while still providing lessons to his followers. The Psychology of Parables began with a conversation about the meaning of the parable of the "Prodigal Son" between author Dennis A. McIntyre and a Christian co-worker named Ted Magee. Ted spent much of his early career in seminary, studying for the ministry. While he had heard many  sermons on the wayward son as the focus of Jesus' parable, he really thought the account was about the son who remained. Dennis shared with him that the story was also about the father, and so the two men agreed to co-write a book on the topic. Immediately, Dennis began his portion with an in-depth look at this parable and its history, audience, and setting. Through his study, Dennis began to understand some insights into the psychology of parables and their unique effects upon the hearts and minds of both their original and contemporary hearers. Ted was also able to share His thoughts, which are captured in this book. Throughout the study within this book, the author addresses how Jesus taught others to handle difficult relationships in more positive ways with the hope that modern readers will find similar  answers for themselves.

    Lessons from Babel

History is a great teacher. We learn from our mistakes, our failures, and our successes. For those who believe that the Bible records the history of mankind, it is full of lessons for the world to use to correct undesirable behavior. Genesis chapter eleven records the events surrounding the building of a tower in what is called Babylon today. It was to be a monument for the people doing the work. God commended their zealousness, but was left out. As a result, He confused their language, the building ceased, and we can learn much from the story.

    The Quilt

The Quilt. Grandma McIntyre collected worthless pieces of cloth, cut them to the sizes she needed, and stitched them together to make quilts. She then gave them away to her grandchildren to keep them warm on those chilly winter nights. She turned worthless scraps into beautiful, valuable, and treasured mementos of her love. God does the same thing. He takes the good, the bad, and the ugly in our lives and "stitches" those experiences into a life "quilt" part of the tapestry of love to all those who will believe in Him.
